The sofa is one of the main elements of a HOME, since it not only stars in a space, but also in an environment. For this reason, at GEMS we take care of all the details, generating quality, sustainable, comfortable upholstery with high durability over time.
It is our mission and at the same time our challenge to provide a better QUALITY OF LIFE and HAPPINESS to our clients through a meticulous and professional elaboration of all our products. However, each person is different, and that is why at GEMS we strive to ensure that each piece is unique and exclusive, and responds to the preferences of each user. HISTORY
GEMS was born in 1983, in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), by Tomás and Antonio.
As a result of effort and good work, in 1989 GEMS makes the decision to move its manufacturing headquarters to Terrassa (Barcelona), where it will have new and improved facilities that will allow it to develop its activity in a more agile way, and optimize its processes.
The new GEMS factory (current location of the facilities) will have 2,000 m2 to continue with the same tradition when manufacturing all its products, completely by hand, and at the same time will have more production capacity that will allow it to continue reaping successes.
At the beginning of the 1990s, GEMS will broaden its horizons and start its export activities. GEMS proposals will be presented at the main European Furniture Fairs. The Company will thus begin to make itself known in cities such as Valencia, Cologne, Milan, Paris and London.
Today, GEMS BARCELONA has established itself as one of the leading national brands in the sector and has the collaboration of renowned designers and architects, with whom it develops its collections of sofas, armchairs, chaise longues, chairs and headboards, for the absolute comfort and well-being of the client.

In 2004 GEMS
inaugurates a
Showroom in
Barcelona city centre,
where
you can find the latest
sofa creations,
armchairs, chairs, chaise
lunges and headboards.
SHOWROOM
In 2004 GEMS decides to take a new step forward and opens its first Showroom in the center of the city of Barcelona. A space where you can see live the details and finishes of several of the pieces offered by the brand. This fact will be decisive in its growth and a few years later, GEMS will change the location of its Showroom to a key location for the world of interior design and decoration, in the heart of the city of Barcelona, where it continues its activity to date.
With an industrial air, preserving some of the original elements of the property such as its walls or ceilings, with the characteristic “Catalan Volta”, the new Showroom has become an emblematic space where you can find the product offered by GEMS, hand in hand with expert advice that is present at all times to accompany the client. The sofas, armchairs, chairs, chaise longues and headboards that can be found at GEMS BARCELONA share the same denominator: COMFORT.
Made with the latest upholstery collections from Designers Guild, Ralph Lauren, Güell Lamadrid, Romo, Gastón y Daniela, Gancedo, Missoni, Elmo Leather, Sørensen Leather, Armura, Crevin, etc., GEMS upholstery uses fabrics and materials from big firms.
Limited collectionsmade by prestigious designers, architects and interior designers,from exclusive international firms, can also be found at GEMS.
GEMS uses a comfort system customised for the manufacturing of their products.
PRODUCTS
The GEMS BARCELONA factory located in Terrassa stands as a large-scale atelier.
There, all the products are made individually, with the utmost care and detail.
The design team is in permanent communication with the production area, which allows them to monitor each and every one of the orders and thus ensure that they are faithful to their design, and in turn conform to the client’s wishes.
GEMS boasts a personalized comfortsystem so that each product it manufactures adjusts to the needs of those who are going to enjoy it. This system constitutes a remarkably differentiating element with respect to other companies in the sector, since the fact of not standardizing the product allows it to be adaptedto the preferences and tastes of each one.
In this way, the GEMS product is characterized by being able to have an immense variety of finishes, either due to its size, its composition or the fabric chosen for its upholstery.
GEMS certifies that
all their collections
of sofas, armchairs, chairs, chaise longues and headboards are made with materials certified by the European Union.
QUALITY
GEMS products comply with all UE regulations(Quality, Guarantee, Environment and International Homologation). The home and contract products exceed the British Standard and EU Fireproofing regulations.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
In its more than 35 years of history, GEMS has been awarded through several recognitions, at national and international level, among which it is worth mentioning the “Honorable Mention” at the International Furniture Fair of Valencia, the “Special Mention to the Product that Marks Trend” at the Fair of Cologne, or the “Best Sofa Award” at the 100% Design Fair in London.
GEMS offers infinite possibilities to choose fabrics or skins, with full flexibility to please the preference of the client.
MATERIALS
The internal structure of the pieces sold by GEMS is made of pine wood with beech inserts, covered with high-density foam rubber (from 30 to 60 kg/m3). The suspension of the pieces is made up of metal frames of 3.8 mm zigzag steel springs.
The seat cushions are made of high-density foam and the customer can choose the level of hardness according to his preference. Likewise, you can choose between a viscoelastic or feather coating.
For the back cushions, hollow silicone fiber is used and they are covered with compartmentalized anti-mite and anti-allergenic covers. The legs are made of varnished beech wood, at the customer’s request, in natural, oak, walnut or wenge.
FINISHES
The GEMS BARCELONA collections can be made from fabrics and leathers from any textile manufacturer or publisher. There is also the option, if preferred, of manufacturing with fabrics provided by the clientto achieve greater customization. GEMS works and collaborates with the main national and international textile manufacturers and distributors.
GEMS manufactures all its collection custom made with excelent finishes and by using the best materials for it.
DESIGN
GEMS BARCELONA’s furniture is designed by its internal team and, for certain collections, GEMS has had the opportunity to make use of collaborations with different nationally and internationally recognized designers and architects. GEMS offers a personalized comfort system so that each product adjusts to the preferences of each client. Custom manufacturing makes it possible to adapt to each project and configure the product to fit the desired space and style.
The materials used for the manufacturing are high quality and respectful with the environment.
MANUFACTURING
All the materials used in the manufacture of all GEMS products are local and of proximity and meet all the quality and guarantee specifications at a state and European level.
All the structures of GEMS products are made of Flanders pine woodwith beech applications at certain points to reinforce the structure. All the wood used comes from sustainable forests in which the trees consumed are replaced and are PEFC and FSC certified.
The suspension is by means of a frame of zigzag steel springs with a thickness of 3.8 mm, which gives greater rigidity to the structure and makes it unalterable over time. The entire structure is covered with high-density foam rubber, variable from 30 to 60kg/m3. The adhesive product used in production is water-based, without petroleum-derived solvents.
The seat cushions are made of high-density foam rubber, and the level of hardness can be chosen between soft, intermediate or hard (intermediate hardness is used as standard).Likewise, you can opt for a viscoelastic covering or a feather cushion. The back cuhsionsare made up of a compartmentalized protective cover in anti-mite and anti-allergenic fabric filled withsilicone hollow fiber. (acrylic, anti-allergenic and recyclable). The legsare made ofbeech woodand they can be varnished in natural colour, oak, walnut or wenge.
GEMS certifies one warranty in all its product, either its structure as its finishes.
WARRANTY
Wood Structures – 10-year or lifetime warranty. Solid wood from sustainable forests is used, so the sofa can be reupholstered over and over again and the structure will remain unchanged over time.
Suspension – 10-year or lifetime warranty. The 3.8mm zigzag steel spring frame reinforces the structure and means that the structure will not collapse.
Seat cushions – 5 year warranty. High-density foam has high durability.
Back cushions – 5 year warranty. The hollow fiber used in the manufacture has an exceptional and constant recovery coefficient over time, so that, with minimal maintenance, the cushion will always look in perfect condition.
Fabric – Depending on the manufacturer, the warranty ranges from 2 to 5 years and covers manufacturing defects.
The chosen fabric for its confection makes the piece unique and exclusive.
UPHOLSTERED
The GEMS BARCELONA collections can be made from fabrics and leathers from any textile manufacturer or publisher. There is also the option, if preferred, of manufacturing with fabrics provided by the client to achieve greater customization. GEMS works and collaborates with the main textile manufacturers and distributors at a national and international level.

PROJECTS
GEMS collaborates with architects and interior designers to develop the products prescribed and designed in each project, so that they are comfortable, durable, of quality and design, and become unique and exclusive pieces. The projects in which GEMS collaborates range from a small renovation of a room, to large projects (libraries, museums, restaurants, hotels, etc.).
Within the GEMS catalog there is a wide variety of collections with different styles and finishes, and they can be configured and modulated according to the needs of the project (armchair, sofa, module with one arm, module without arm, corner unit, chaise longue, etc.).
Designers and architects with international recognition have collaborated on some of GEMS collections.
